Ghost Towns Tour

People settled the old west in their search for gold and silver and after the mines played out they left ghost towns for us to explore. This will be a five hour tour through Chloride and Oatman Arizona and El Dorado Canyon in Nevada.

Visit Three Ghost Towns of the Old West

3801 S Las Vegas Blvd, Las Vegas, NV, United States

Our day tour begins with a photo stop at Hoover Dam. This iconic dam was constructed during the Great Depression and was dedicated on September 30, 1935 by President Franklin Roosevelt.  Then we head to Chloride Arizona, a former mining community  that was once the Mojave County seat. Widespread mining began in the 1870s and the town at one time boasted around 5,000 inhabitants.  There are only about 250 residents now and the ghosts of days past can still be seen on the old streets and in the quaint buildings that still stand. Great for pictures and browsing in the antique shops.

Chloride Ghost Town

We’ll have lunch in Kingman Az before traveling down old Rt. 66 to the former mining town of Oatman Az. We travel through the Black Mountains to this famous old gold rush boom town which was a favorite of actor Clark Gable. Over 13 million dollars worth of gold came out of this area and at one time had over 3500 residents. Today a few hundred remain along with “Oatie”  a friendly poltergeist whose identity is believed to be that of William Ray Flour, an Irish miner who died behind the hotel. Today you can have a drink in the old hotel and take pictures of the wild burros roaming this streets, descendants of pack animals turned loose by early prospectors.

Our last stop is the El Dorado Canyon. We travel down the Veteran’s Memorial Highway to our last Ghost Town near Nelson’s Landing where steamboats plied the Colorado River. Prospecting and mining was in full swing in the 1850s and the area was rich and gold and silver. Millions of dollars of ore came out of this area and today it’s a popular remnant of the wild west era.
